Care Guide
How to care for your bridal accessories:
Justine M Couture wants to ensure that your purchase can be heir loomed, preserved or remade into jewelry after your wedding so we have prepared these helpful tips to make sure that your purchase is handled correctly.
Preparation:
All jewelry, especially pearls, gemstones and crystals do not enjoy contact with hairspray, perfume, water and other skin creams or lotions. Prior to wearing your jewelry and headpiece, make sure that your skin is dry from water, lotion and perfume and that your hair is dry from gel, mousse and hairsprays, etc.
A very important tip for your hairdresser/bridal hair stylist:
It is advisable that the headpiece be placed on the bride's head after her hair has been styled and after hairspray has been used. If it is absolutely necessary for hairspray to be used after the headpiece has been placed on the bride's head, cover the headpiece/hair ornaments (including hair sticks) with your hand or a cloth while spraying and keep covered until all the hairspray has settled. Hair should be allowed to dry before any further movement is made to ensure that the headpiece does not touch wet hairspray or other hair products.
Hair Spray:
Spraying hairspray directly onto the headpiece will instantly damage and dull the piece. Hairspray acts as a glue and is acid based. It eats away at the surface and is impossible to remove after it has adhered to the surface of the material.
Storage of headpiece/jewelry/hair ornaments:
If you do not intend to have your headpiece remade into jewelry and wish to heirloom it, it is important to keep the headpiece in a dry, preferably airtight container.
Silver wire tarnishes slightly with age due to the humidity in the air. Keeping the headpiece/hair ornaments in something as simple as a zip lock plastic bag is suitable and, if you have it, some silica gel pouches (such as you find in newly purchased luggage). Inserting the silica gel pouches into the zip lock bag will ensure that the headpiece stays free from moisture.
Storage of veils:
Where possible, your veil should be sealed professionally with your dress to preserve the fabric from aging and discoloration. Crystals and pearls can often be taken from your veil and added to the materials from your headpiece/tiara if you are having these items remade into jewelry after your wedding.
We hope you enjoy your beautiful accessories for years to come.
